My Grandfather & Heaven

old youngPost written by Peter G. James Sinclair.

Life is full of significant moments. This one I am going to share with you was very important.

I was recently reminded of the following event that I am compelled to share with you.

My mother’s father to me was a poor example of what a granddad should be. A birthday card and a couple of bucks each birthday with the painful experience of having to ring and say thank you every year – as a kid – didn’t give me a lot of respect for him as a man. I was actually more and more offended as the years went by.

The Life Changing Visit

But before going overseas with my young family, when my son was one and my eldest daughter was four, I was led to go and visit him. And as a family we did.

So while my wife and the children were inside with my granddad’s second wife, I was in the backyard with my grandfather. And it is there that he prayed the prayer of salvation as I led him to the Lord Jesus with tears streaming down both of our faces, standing face to face, and holding each other’s hands.

Our Eternal Responsibility

I led each of my three children to the Lord the very same way at the age of two. Family, I believe, are our eternal responsibility.

That was probably the last time I saw my grandfather, but I am so thankful that I will see him again in heaven.

I forgave him that day, and to this day I have deep respect for him, because he gave me such a wonderful mother – and he opened his heart up to our Heavenly Father through His Son.
